Dear Grizzly Families,
I hope you have had a good week! I, for one, have enjoyed the sunshine and appreciate the ability to take my computer outdoors to work. Despite a few technical hiccups, the roll out of distance learning was very successful overall with higher than average attendance. Being able to see our students and feeling a small sense of normalcy was very exciting. I appreciate all your efforts at home to help your student prepare for online classes. You were your student’s first teacher and will always be an invaluable partner in their education. Thank you!
We would like to share a couple of updates with you regarding Prom and Graduation. SMUSD remains in close communication with public health officials regarding virus prevention. Unfortunately, the stay-at-home order has not been lifted and, as a result, it means that this year’s Prom will not take place. The Administration for both schools will continue to work closely with your ASB and the Class of 2020 Leadership to discuss other ways to build connections and maintain our sense of Grizzly Pride for the remainder of the school year.
Across the country, graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2020 continue to be discussed. A determination has not yet been made as to whether or not we will be able to gather for an in-person graduation ceremony. Administration will continue to work alongside the Class of 2020 leadership seeking recommendations for alternative options in the event we are unable to hold the traditional graduation ceremony.
Please keep in contact with our Class of 2020 through our website and social media platforms.
Much love,
Mrs. Flores-Dunda, Principal

GRADES AND PROGRESS REPORTS. Progress grades should now be posted to Synergy. These grades reflect your student’s progress in their classes as of March 13th. As the semester continues online, you may notice fluctuations in your student’s grade and that, from time to time, the “live” grade may be lower than the progress grade. At the end of the semester, your student’s final grade will reflect the work completed during distance learning as long as that grade is not lower than the progress grade (hold harmless). For example, if a student earns a B on the progress report, but the gradebook shows a C+ at the end of the semester, then the final grade posted will be a B. On the other hand, if a student earns a B on the progress report, but the gradebook shows an A at the end of the semester, then the final grade posted will be an A (the higher of the two).

Estimadas familias Grizzly:
