The San Diego Workforce Partnership (SDWP) funds job training programs that meet the needs of employers in San Diego County. They are the local Workforce Development Board, designated by the City and County of San Diego.

SDWP’s six career centers provide employment services, including career assessment, job training and job search assistance.

SDWP funds youth programs that provide work-readiness training to youth from low-income households as well as youth who are at risk of dropping out of school. The goal is to prepare young adults for high school graduation, post-secondary education and, ultimately, a career.

This program can help you decide on educational and career goals as well as explore career options through internships and employment. Services include academic & job skills training and paid work experience.

Interfaith Community Services (Coastal Service Center - Oceanside) Transitional Youth Academy Program:
The goal of this program is to prepare you for a job; this may include a trade school certificate program, apprenticeship or college. There are opportunities for paid internships.

YMCA Escondido Workforce Development – Urban Career Pathways: This program provides training and paid work experience in high-demand jobs. Their 3 career pathways are: Social and Human Services; Child Development or Specialty Foods and Microbreweries.

North County Coastal and Inland Career Centers: You have two options at San Diego Career Centers - Self-directed and Staff-assisted:

Self-directed: independent use of the career center. You can use the center for job searches, learn what businesses are hiring and what they’re looking for. You can use the center’s computers, internet, phones, printers and other technology to search and apply for jobs. You can also obtain a typing certificate, take Microsoft Word classes and attend workshops and job hiring events.

Staff-assisted: individual assistance from Career Center staff members. Services include an orientation meeting; career counseling and planning; job search and job placement assistance; career assessments; work-readiness training and subsidized training programs.

JOB CORPS

Job Corps: http://www.jobcorps.gov - a voluntary program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor, which provides eligible young men and women with an opportunity to gain the experience they need to begin a career or advance to higher education.

Job Corps is the nation's largest career technical training and education program for young people at least 16 years of age that qualify as low income. Job Corps is a free education and training program that helps young people learn a career, earn a high school diploma or GED, and find and keep a good job. Job Corps provides the all-around skills needed to succeed in a career and in life. Job Corps offers hands-on training in more than 100 career technical areas, including: automotive and machine repair, construction, finance and business services, health care, hospitality, information technology, manufacturing, renewable resources, and many more. All training programs are aligned with industry certifications and are designed to meet the requirements of today's careers.

Job Corps also offers the opportunity to earn a high school diploma or a GED for those youth who don't have either. For youth who already have a high school diploma, Job Corps can help them prepare for college through partnerships with local colleges. If you are age 18 through 64 and receive Social Security Disability benefits you can take advantage of Work Incentives that make it easier to work and still receive health care and cash benefits from Social Security, and protections if you have to stop working due to your disability. Social Security's Ticket to Work program supports career development for Social Security disability beneficiaries age 18 through 64 who want to work. The Ticket program is free and voluntary. The program helps people with disabilities progress toward financial independence. Ticket to Work connects you with free employment services to help you decide if working is right for you, prepare for work, find a job or maintain success while you are working. If you choose to participate, you will receive services such as career counseling, vocational rehabilitation, and job placement and training from authorized Ticket to Work service providers, such as Employment Networks (EN) or your state Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) agency. The service provider you choose will serve as an important part of your “employment team” that will help you on your journey to financial independence.
