MHHS Student Handbook 2022-23

Updated Dress Code 2022-2023

There have been several adjustments made to our dress code. Below are the main items that will be strictly enforced:

1. Only Mission Hills affiliated hats, caps, beanies, and other head coverings (other than religious items) may be worn on campus throughout the day.

2. Hats, caps, and other head coverings are prohibited indoors unless permitted for religious, cultural, medical, or other reason by school administrator.

3. Appropriate shoes must be worn at all times.

4. Undergarments may not be worn as outer garments. See through clothing and bathing suits are prohibited.

5. All clothing, jewelry, and personal items (including backpacks and binders) shall be free of writing, pictures, or any other insignia which is vulgar, lewd, obscene, profane, or sexually suggestive (no clothing or items with Playboy representations) or which promotes the use of alcohol, drugs, tobacco, or other illegal activities. Attire manufactured by companies that specifically have ties to the drug industry (such as Cookies, KUSH, and WakeN’Bake) are also prohibited.

6. Clothing may not state, imply, or depict hate speech/imagery targeting groups based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religious affiliation, or any other protected classification.

7. No professional sports team attire is allowed on campus at any time.
As gang-related symbols are constantly changing, definitions of gang-related apparel shall be reviewed at least once each semester and updated whenever related information is received. Mission Hills collaborates with the San Diego Sheriffs to update definitions of gang-related apparel. Currently, items that are prohibited include all professional sports attire, for example, the wearing of any SD, LA, Padres, Dodgers, Raiders, or White Sox (including Jerseys and hats). [Education Code 32282 & 35183]

Consequences: The inappropriate item will be exchanged for an appropriate top or bottom until the end of the school day. In the event that an article of clothing is confiscated, the school will not be liable if the item is not reclaimed. Excessive dress code violations will be referred to the assistant principal's office and a consequence may be assigned.
